Alum Mountain - Bulahdelah

Alum Mountain dominates the Myall River floodplain. It is significant to the local Worimi who call it Bulla Della, meaning 'the Great Rock'. It is a volcanic extrusion, later named after a rare alunite deposit was discovered there in the late 1800s and subsequently mined until 1952. In 1917, this alunite deposit was reported as one of only three deposits in Australia and the largest in the world. Other features include an Aboriginal scatter site, scarred trees, old tramway, mullock heap, boiler wall and clay brick crucible.
